Today's journey takes you to two important historic sites that reveal Lithuania's fascinating past.

Trakai

Travel to Trakai, a picturesque lake district located approximately 28 km from Vilnius.

Visit the spectacular 15th-century Trakai Island Castle, a striking red-brick fortress built on an island and once a residence of the Lithuanian Grand Dukes.

Enjoy the surrounding lake scenery and discover the history of this former medieval capital.

Kernavė

Continue to Kernavė, an ancient settlement that provides an insight into Lithuania's early history.

Located in the scenic Pajauta Valley, Kernavė is an important archaeological and historical reserve and is often referred to locally as "Lithuanian Troy."

The archaeological site, landscape and historic remains have earned Kernavė Archaeological Site a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Return to Vilnius after the day's exploration.
